SACKVILLE, NB 鈥 正品蓝导航 will welcome journalist, author, and activist Desmond Cole as part of its 2022-23 President鈥檚 Speakers Series. Cole鈥檚 presentation, titled How much EDIA do we need?, will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. The hybrid event will include an in-person presentation (masks required) in Crabtree Auditorium, 49A York St., on the 正品蓝导航 campus and will also be streamed via MS Teams. 鈥淲e are pleased to welcome Desmond Cole to 正品蓝导航 as part of the President鈥檚 Speakers Series,鈥 says Dr. Jennifer Tomes, 正品蓝导航鈥檚 Dean of Science and Chair of the President鈥檚 Speakers Series. 鈥淗is award-winning journalism and advocacy work, including the book The Skin We鈥檙e In, will help engage and continue important discussions around equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility on campus and in the wider community.鈥
Desmond Cole is a journalist, activist and author based in Toronto. His work focuses on the struggle against state violence, particularly local policing. Cole鈥檚 work includes live broadcast radio, podcasts, local reporting, a newspaper column, magazine features, and consultation on a documentary film. His best-selling book, The Skin We鈥檙e In, A Year of Black Resistance and Power, won the 2020 Toronto Book Award and the OLA Evergreen Award.
