正品蓝导航 prepares to welcome approximately 700 new students to campus for the 2023-24 academic year.
Welcome/Move-In Day on Friday, Sept. 1 will serve as the official start to Fall Orientation, which runs from Sept. 1鈥6. Throughout the week, students will have the chance to attend information sessions, get to know their peers, and discover academic and extracurricular activities available both on and off campus.
This year鈥檚 Orientation chair is fourth-year environmental studies student Elaine Treash.
鈥淢y experience as orientation chair has been rewarding,鈥 says Treash. 鈥淭hroughout the summer, I鈥檝e had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful staff, faculty, and students.鈥
Treash says she looks forward to meeting students and can鈥檛 wait for the incoming class to join the MtA community.
鈥淚'm also fortunate to have an amazing group of student leaders participating in the Orientation committee and crew! My favourite part about preparing for Orientation has been planning a wide variety of fun activities and events for everyone to enjoy.鈥
International Orientation kicks off on Monday, Aug. 28 and will run until Aug. 31, giving international students the opportunity to get settled on campus before University Orientation begins.
The Meighen Centre Orientation is also held Aug. 29鈥31, prior to University Orientation, to allow students living with disabilities or medical conditions extra time and resources to transition to university life.
Danai B茅langer, Director of Student Experience, says she looks forward to Orientation and welcoming students back to campus.
鈥淲e鈥檙e bringing back parent orientation. This is a great opportunity for parents to interact with university staff and to learn more about how they can support their student through their Mount A journey.鈥
This year鈥檚 Orientation is placing more emphasis on topics such as consent, education, and harms reduction education. 鈥淲e want to ensure students have the tools and resources they need to be safe while they鈥檙e here, how to self-advocate, but also how to support their friends.鈥
B茅langer says that the event would not be possible without help from volunteers.
鈥淲e have about 200 students who have come back to campus early, giving up part of their summer. I really appreciate the enthusiasm that they have year after year,鈥 she says. 鈥淥ur Orientation chair Elaine has been amazing, and all the Orientation chairs have done an amazing job recruiting these student volunteers and to help us welcome students back to campus.鈥
